A huge town center redevelopment project, in the works for the fast-growing Indianapolis suburb of Fishers, Indiana since 2007, was recently put on the back burner. Well on its way to unfolding but still in the design phase, the downtown Fishers revitalization project had to be canceled or postponed due to credit problems and the currently unstable economic climate.
Downtown Fishers is still an active and pleasant area. The charming local Town Hall is located in downtown’s Fishers Municipal Complex, which also houses the Fishers Chamber of Commerce, the Visitors and Convention Bureau, the local library, the fire and police departments, the post office and the Fishers Train Station Community Building. There are also many different Fishers businesses that line the streets of downtown Fishers, including shops, craft stores, and Fishers restaurants.
The big lawn outside Fishers Town Hall is presently the site of the popular Fishers Summer Concert Series, put on by the Fishers Parks and Recreation Department. By the end of 2009, picnickers and Indianapolis music lovers who come to enjoy the warm nights of summer on the lawn outside Town Hall will have a new town monument to enjoy. The Liberty Plaza Project should be gracing the lawn by then, a large and stunning memorial to all those who have helped keep America keep her cherished freedom. Downtown Fishers is well on its way to becoming an entertaining and important Fishers attraction.
