A lanky, handsome schoolmaster by the name of Ichabod Crane from Connecticut longs for the hand of 18-year-old town beauty Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter of a wealthy farmer. The tale takes place in the Dutch settlement of Tarry Town, New York in the late 1700’s. Unfortunately, Crane isn’t the only one who wishes for Katrina’s love. The town rascal, Abraham “Brom Bones” Brunt, declares his intention to marry her as well.

One dark Autumn night, as Crane leaves a party at the Van Tassel mansion, he finds himself being hotly pursued by the “Headless Horseman.” The Headless Horseman was rumored to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper whose head was brutally shot off by a cannonball during a bloody battle in the Revolutionary War. As the legend goes, the soldier rides blindly each night in a futile attempt to locate his missing head. Ichabod vanishes that night without a trace, and Katrina, heartbroken, settles for marrying Brom Bones, who most interpret to be the Headless Horseman himself.
