Fishers Summer Camps: Experience Nature in Fishers

Fishers summer camps take place within the beautiful and extensive grounds maintained by the Fishers Parks and Recreation Department. With twelve parks and more than 300 acres of land, the quickly growing green spaces are keeping pace with the quickly growing population of Fishers, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis.

Among the many community activities that go on all year round in Fishers parks, there are nine official Fishers summer camps providing fun, supervised play and learning for Fishers children during the summer. Below is a list of the nine programs, with a brief description of each:

Adventure Club – Just for kids from seven to nine years old. The counselor to camper ratio is a low one to nine, with a maximum enrollment of eighteen. Fun themes for the Adventure Club include: Smooshy Substances, Suddenly a Safari, Baking Bonanza, Hocus Pocus, Games Galore & Sports for Sure, Electrifying Experiments and a visit to the Indiana State Fair.
Budding Naturalists – Reserved for a maximum of 24 kids from ages nine to eleven, with a low camper to counselor ratio of just six to one. Kids get to dabble in supervised experiments to immerse them in the natural world.
Camp Funshine – An ever-popular summer camp for children from ages ten to twelve, Camp Funshine is a well rounded program of five consecutive half-days during June, July and the first part of August. Kids get a variety of activities each day, including games, crafts, playground time and stories. The counselor to camper ratio is one to ten, with a maximum enrollment of 20.
Kids Zone – For little kids from five to six, this camp offers a comfortable camper to counselor ratio of seven to one. Maximum enrollment is 48 tykes. Some of the themes in the past have included: Mad Scientists, Making Waves, Jungle Jamboree, Knights & Damsels, Summer Sleuths and A Pirate’s Life for Me. Camp meets every weekday in June and July and the first week in August at Roy G. Holland Memorial Park.
Little Tykes – Another very popular supervised kid-camp, this one is reserved for children between three and four years old. Some of the cute themes are: Clowning Around at the Circus, We Got the Beat, Dino Discoveries, Zippity ZOO da, Drip, Drop, Splash, and Mushy Mayhem.
Nature Explorers – A challenge-while-learning survival camp for kids between seven and eight years old, with a low counselor to camper ratio of one to six. Maximum enrollment is 24 children. Camp meets for four hours in two weekday sessions during July at the Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve.
Nature Nuts – Reserved for children between the ages of five and six, Nature Nuts day camp has a sweet counselor to camper ratio of one to six, with a maximum enrollment of 24. The themes are nature related, and there are two sessions during the month of July.
RWNP Extreme Adventure Camp – A sophisticated new survival program for people age twelve and older, this adventure is geared toward the older crowd. Take a nature-survival trip to Costa Rica and compare the difference between natural habitats there and those back home in Indiana. This special “eco-tour” is run by the company called Education First, Educational Tours.
Trail Tots – Little kids of three and four years get to experience nature in the forest, wetlands and prairie areas of beautiful Ritchey Woods. This particular day camp offers the lowest counselor to camper ratio around, at one to five.
